It's no secret that several Bruins players were battling injuries, but Patrice Bergeron revealed that he was - and still is - dealing with a severe injury during the opening round against the Panthers.
The Bruins' captain missed the first four games of the series due to an unspecified injury and a rumoured illness.
Pushing Through the Pain
However, Bergeron disclosed the true nature of his condition, and it's certainly surprising.
''I have a herniated disc in my back, so that's why I missed the four games and tried to rush to come back. Obviously, it's stiff, but it's definitely not something to use as an excuse. It is what it is. Everybody is battling something in the playoffs, but it's unfortunate the way it happened on a fluke play.''

Joe Haggerty of Boston Hockey Now reported that the injury, sadly, occurred in the regular-season finale in Montreal.
This just goes to show that Patrice Bergeron is arguably the best captain in the league.
The number of injuries he's endured throughout the postseason is incredible, and it's fair to say that he deserved better this season. Interestingly, the Bruins' record in the first round of the playoffs was 0-3 with Bergeron in the lineup and 3-1 without him.
