Veteran Brad Marchand has consistently been candid about his opinions on contentious subjects in the NHL, and this Thursday was no exception.
A major issue up for debate in the league is the increasing dissatisfaction with the current playoff format among both fans and players.
Returning to the Previous Format
The popular proposal involves the NHL reverting to a Conference-style playoff seeding, commonly referred to as the 1 to 8 system. On Thursday, Marchand expressed his true thoughts on the existing structure:
''You have the top-3 teams in one division. You have three teams that should be going deep, [two] are playing against each other in the first round. ... So I think we should go back to the one versus eight.''
Marchand is not the first player to criticize the current Divisional format, as Sidney Crosby also expressed similar sentiments earlier this season.
