Brad Marchand, often known for his humor off the ice, displayed a different side of himself when named team captain by Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery. Marchand expressed deep gratitude for the honor, calling it a childhood dream come true.
"As a kid, you never think things like that are possibilities. You're dreaming of making the NHL, let alone wearing a letter. It's like people ask what it's like to win a Cup, you can't explain it. But very proud and honored," Marchand said.
Marchand received the news during a dinner with Montgomery, Bruins president Cam Neely, and general manager Don Sweeney. He took over as captain following Patrice Bergeron's retirement, with Bergeron publicly endorsing his candidacy.
As the new team captain, Brad Marchand leads the Bruins into the 2023-24 NHL season, seeking redemption after a playoff loss to the Florida Panthers last season.
