The Boston Bruins endured a close 5-4 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals in the preseason, bringing their record to 1-3-1. Notable performances came from rookie trio Matthew Poitras, John Beecher, and Mason Lohrei.

Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark made 35 crucial saves, and Milan Lucic, back in a Bruins uniform, scored his first goal and assisted Lohrei's goal.

Trent Frederic's physical presence was evident, with four hits. Special teams struggled as the powerplay went 0-for-4, and the penalty kill allowed two goals on three powerplays.

The rookie trio impressed, with Poitras securing his spot for the 2023-24 season. Despite being out-shot 41-20, the game showed promise for the Bruins.

Coach Jim Montgomery praised Poitras for his competitiveness and poise, making him one to watch this season.
