Boston's head coach recently joined Sportsnet's Christine Simpson for an intimate conversation, delving into his past struggles that nearly derailed his career.
Back in 2019, Montgomery was let go from his role as the Dallas Stars head coach after only two seasons due to "unprofessional conduct."
Following his dismissal, Montgomery voluntarily entered rehab for alcohol addiction, and it seemed unlikely at that point that he'd be able to experience a season like the one he's currently sharing with the Bruins.
Since then, he's discovered the "perfect marriage" with the team he took over in Boston.
However, Montgomery attributes his success to his marriage with his wife, Emily, as he believes he wouldn't be sober today without her support.
Montgomery has now led the 2022-23 Boston Bruins to the most successful regular season in NHL history, setting new single-season records for wins (65) and points (135).
Although it seems likely that he'll be awarded his first Jack Adams Award in the near future, the team's ultimate goal is to bring home the coveted Stanley Cup.
