Jesper Boqvist, the forward for the Boston Bruins, is set to confront his former team during Wednesday night's game, providing a significant opportunity for the talented player.
With injuries sidelining Pavel Zacha and Charlie McAvoy for the upcoming away match against the New Jersey Devils, the Bruins opted to recall Boqvist on Tuesday. Boqvist demonstrated his skills in 24 games played with Boston's AHL affiliate in Providence this season, did five goals and nine assists, capturing the attention of Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery.
Montgomery pointed out Boqvist's recent impressive performances as a key reason for his promotion. However, the coach acknowledged an additional motivating factor—the 25-year-old forward's previous tenure with the Devils. Boqvist spent his initial four NHL seasons with the Devils before joining Boston during the offseason as a free agent.
Although there's no certainty that Boqvist will take to the rink against the Devils, he contends with Johnny Beecher, Jakub Lauko, and Oskar Steen for playing time on Boston's fourth line. With Boqvist back in contention, Montgomery encounters a choice, yet the adaptable forward, who previously had a short period with the Bruins in late October, presents a strong argument for another chance.
