The young forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets has been turning heads in the NHL preseason, but Saturday night brought a reality check courtesy of a seasoned NHL veteran.
In the second period of a preseason showdown between Fantilli's Blue Jackets and the Washington Capitals, Fantilli felt the full force of NHL physicality when Capitals forward T.J. Oshie laid a punishing hit.
Fantilli briefly lost control of the puck and was in pursuit when the wily veteran seized an opportunity. Oshie's thunderous hit sent Fantilli's stick airborne and sent him crashing to the ice.
To his credit, the rookie quickly regained his footing and attempted to shake off the bone-crushing hit along the boards.
