Ian Mitchell, a recent addition to the Boston Bruins as a rookie defenseman, tragically lost his best friend, Logan Hunter, in the devastating Humboldt Broncos bus crash.

As the third anniversary of this heartbreaking incident draws near, Mitchell finds solace in wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates hat each day, symbolizing Hunter's enduring presence and the pride he would have felt for Mitchell's NHL journey.

Hunter possessed a deep affection for hats, with the Pirates hat holding a special place in his heart. Though Mitchell did not share the same passion for headwear, he now wears his own personalized Pirates hat bearing Hunter's initials and number, serving as a constant reminder of their cherished friendship.

The 2018 bus crash claimed the lives of three close friends, including Hunter, leaving a profound impact on Mitchell. In honor of Hunter's memory, Mitchell and their circle of friends adopted the tradition of donning Pirates hats.

Unfazed by wearing it in potentially unwelcoming environments, Mitchell proudly wears the hat daily. His bond with Hunter's mother, Shauna Nordstrom, remains strong, as they exchange text messages after every game.

Mitchell's future with the Bruins appears bright, and he continues to carry Hunter's spirit with him every time he takes to the ice. The Pirates hat serves as a meaningful tribute, ensuring that Hunter's memory endures as Mitchell pursues his NHL dreams.
