On this very day in 1983, Montreal Canadiens legend, Guy Lapointe Shocked the hockey world and signed with the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins and Canadiens have a deep seated hatred and rivalry that spans back to the inception of the league. As Original 6 teams, they played a major hand in growing the sport to what it is today.

When Guy Lapointe signed with the Bruins for the final season of his career, many Canadiens fans believe he was betraying the history of that rivalry. Especially after being a key piece of those Stanley Cups winning teams in 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979.

«And while no one could carry the puck like Bobby Orr, Guy Lapointe was a really good skater and could really lug the puck,» Bowman said. «He was a hybrid-style of defenseman, way before his time. He could skate and he could score.

«Guy Lapointe simply did everything - and the people who compared him to (Brad) Park did him a disservice; he was better than Park because he could do more.»

This would be where Lapointe would end his career but not with out a bitter sweet exit. The Bruins made it to the playoffs but ultimately lost to his former team the Canadiens in a tough fight matchup.

Lapointe finahed the season with 2 goals and 16 assists for 18 points in 42 games played.
