The Lightning traded for Ryan McDonagh yesterday meaning they will also be taking on his $6.25 million contract for the next two seasons.
Taking on this cap hit will only leave the Lightning with $5 million meaning that re-signing Steven Stamkos in unlikely unless he takes a considerable pay cut.
#tblightning GM Julien BriseBois said they have enough cap space with McDonagh deal to sign Steven Stamkos and that talks are ongoing. "We still have some cap space to get done what I think we need to get done this offseason."
While GM Julien Brisebois has stated that they are in contract negotiations and want him to return, it is hard to believe, especially after acquiring McDonagh.
Bruins fans are now excited as Boston has a lot of available cap space and Stamkos was linked in a trade to the Bruins last season.
It will be interesting to see what develops in the coming weeks.
