Morgan Rielly was given a major penalty and game misconduct for cross-checking Senators Ridly Greig on February 10th.
Rielly was originally given a 5-game suspension but appealed the decision since he was a first time offender. Bettman decided to uphold the 5-game suspension because he believes that Rielly could have taken a verbal or less-aggressive approach to the situation.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will now have to play their next 5 games without their top defenseman. The Leafs next game will be Wednesday night against the Arizona Coyotes.
