It was a sad day for the entire hockey community as we lost 2 amazing young men, but it also taught us an important lesson on how dangerous social media can be. When Dylan H. Robillard broke the speculation, the internet went wild as they were no confirmed sources or reports on the matter. His "story" created a spiral of negativity, jokes and unprofessional behavior that should never be repeated. There is a right and a wrong way to conduct matters like this, and to try and be the "first one" to report a terrible story for clicks and attention is disgusting.
Its incredibly Important to note that while Robillard ended up being right about his report, it's extremely harmful and not okay to drop a story about the death of a player without 100% confirmation from credible sources.
