Last season, Mason Lohrei, a Bruins prospect, made a brief appearance in Providence, notching one assist in five games. However, his journey took a significant turn during his graduating year at Ohio State, where he transformed into a highly productive two-way defenseman, amassing an impressive 28 assists and 32 points in 40 games.

As the Boston Bruins' training camp kicks into high gear, head coach Jim Montgomery seizes the opportunity to assess the talent within the prospect pool and monitor the development of the organization's top prospects.

One standout in camp this week is the 22-year-old defenseman, Mason Lohrei, who has captured the attention of Jim Montgomery. Speaking to reporters, Montgomery shared,
"It's been a pleasant surprise how he's [Mason Lohrei] performed over all three days so far,"
as reported by's Eric Russo.

Lohrei, a second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, has been sharing the ice with Brandon Carlo during camp. His goal is to earn a spot on the Bruins' roster this year, although he acknowledges that it might take another year or two to secure a permanent position in the Bruins' defensive lineup. However, Lohrei is confident that once he gets his chance to play in the NHL, he can make a significant impact.

In his own words, Lohrei explained,
"That's always been my game – defending, penalty killing, and stepping up in crucial moments to prevent the opposition from scoring. But, of course, I'm passionate about all facets of the game, including the offensive side. I'm not saying it will happen right away, but I aspire to reach that level eventually."
