Dmitry Orlov Shares Admiration for Bruins' Fourth Liner
Don Sweeney scored a major win for the Boston Bruins at the Trade Deadline, with the notable acquisition of Dmitry Orlov, however, the defenseman has a different perspective.
The Bruins also bolstered their toughness by bringing in Orlov's longtime teammate from the Washington Capitals, Garnet Hathaway, who has earned high praise from Orlov.
What Hathaway Contributes to the Team
While Hathaway may not consistently contribute offensively, there's no doubt he can get under his opponent's skin, particularly the opposing team's defensemen. Orlov shared his thoughts on Hathaway with Ty Anderson of 98.5 The Sports Hub:
''He's obviously a strong guy. and it's always sticking in your mind as a defenseman. And you sometimes just try to maybe go stick-on-puck and you lose it in a moment when you actually should try to make a play and take a hit, you know, and it's not easy to play against these guys.''
Hathaway showcased his value to the Bruins during their divisional game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at TD Garden on Saturday. Nine seconds after puck drop, he engaged in a fight with Patrick Maroon, establishing the rivalry's intensity.
Furthermore, Hathaway scored the decisive goal with under three minutes left in the second period, helping Boston secure a 2-1 victory over the Lightning.
Since joining the Bruins on February 27th, the 31-year-old has recorded 3 goals, 2 assists, a plus-three, and 39 hits in 15 games.
