Just four games later, Bergeron received another high hit, this time from Lane Pederson of the Columbus Blue Jackets, causing bleeding from his ear:
Since then, the Bruins' captain has been sidelined for the team's last two games, back-to-back matches in Pittsburgh and St. Louis.
Head coach Jim Montgomery revealed that Bergeron is dealing with multiple injuries:
''Bergeron's out. Resting nagging injuries here that — obviously the cross-check in the ear — but he's been dealing with some upper-body and lower-body issues that we'd like to get him some rest on.''
Despite being in his 19th season, the 37-year-old Bergeron continues to excel as a defensive forward. He ranks third on the team with 27 goals and 30 assists in 74 games.
Is there reason to worry about Bergeron with only five games left this season?
On a positive note for Bergeron and other injured players, Ty Anderson reported that the Bruins will also take Tuesday off:
''Bruins announce that they will take Tuesday off as well. Back to practice Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Warrior.''
