After nearly fifteen years, the Boston Bruins find themselves in unfamiliar territory without former captain Patrice Bergeron, setting the stage for the search for a new leader in the locker room.
Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and a few others emerge as the top contenders. In a recent interview, Bruins' head coach Jim Montgomery was probed about the captaincy for the upcoming 2023–2024 season.
"I think we are making progress in the direction of having someone be our captain [in 2023-24]. We've had internal discussions... I don't have a specific timeline for it yet," Montgomery shared.
While the official announcement of the new captain lacks a specific date, Bruins' management will keep a close eye on the candidates during training camp and the early stages of the regular season.
It's no longer a question of "if" but rather "when" and "who," as Bruins fans eagerly await the decision.
