In a latest update, Jim Montgomery discussed Pat Maroon's rehabilitation progress and his expected return to action with the Boston Bruins.
Pat Maroon joined the Boston Bruins on the ice for the first time since being traded to the team before the NFL trade deadline, marking his first practice with the squad. After undergoing back surgery in February, Maroon had previously skated solo last week before teaming up with his new colleagues at the Warrior Ice Arena on Monday.
Jim Montgomery, the head coach of the Bruins, provided an update on Maroon's status and shared an initial estimate regarding his comeback timeline to NESN.
"He is making the steps to get closer," Montgomery told reporters, per the Bruins. "I think when he first got here we said week to week, we knew it was going to be a couple of weeks. Now it really is week to week. And as he hits more of the steps and milestones, it will become day to day."
Montgomery didn't explicitly confirm if Maroon would participate in a regular-season match before the Stanley Cup Playoffs commence, but he mentioned, "it's looking that way."
With only seven games left in the regular season, Montgomery highlighted the April 13th game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, which is the team's third-to-last regular-season game, as the most optimistic scenario for Maroon's return.
While Montgomery and the Bruins team are hopeful to have Maroon play before the playoffs, Boston's head coach suggested it isn't critical for that to happen.
