The Ottawa Senators made a splash with Jake Sanderson's massive eight-year, $8.05 million per season contract extension, set to kick in for the 2024-25 season. But as they gear up for the 2023-24 season, GM Pierre Dorion has some unfinished business - signing two restricted free agents, Shane Pinto and Egor Sokolov.
According to Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now, the Bruins have their eye on Shane Pinto, should the Senators decide to move the 22-year-old. Contract talks between Pinto and the Senators appear to be at a standstill, fueling trade speculations.
Pinto's name is in trade discussions because the Senators seem to prefer Ridly Greig over him. However, acquiring Pinto won't come cheap. The Senators are reportedly looking for a promising prospect ready to make an NHL impact, with John Beecher or Fabian Lysell among the names mentioned by Murphy.
Pinto, a native of Franklin Square, New York, had a stellar rookie season in the 2022-23 NHL campaign, amassing 35 points (20 goals, 15 assists) and 18 penalty minutes while playing all 82 games, despite a minus-21 rating.
