Andrei Svechnikov of the Carolina Hurricanes has now achieved a hat trick of
'Michigan' goals in his NHL career. The third one was against the Boston Bruins.
Tonight, Svechnikov secured his third lacrosse-style Michigan goal, and the most intriguing aspect is that hardly anyone was aware of his score, except for Svechnikov himself. Take a look:
Midway through the game, Svechnikov skated around the net, swiftly lifted the puck on his stick, placing it in the top corner just before Swayman and defenseman Andrew Peeke arrived at the post.At that moment, the officials missed the play, allowing the game to continue for about thirty seconds. The whistle blew, and the goal was confirmed after video replays. Svechnikov is no stranger to the Michigan-style goal, having scored two such goals during the 2019 season.
This goal marked his 19th of the season and put the Hurricanes ahead.Teuvo Teravainen extended the Hurricanes' lead less than three minutes later. Svechnikov earned an assist on the play. Charlie McAvoy narrowed the Canes' lead to one goal before the end of the period. The game is still ongoing.
