In the 2005-2006 NHL season, the Boston Bruins underwent major changes as GM Mike O'Connell was fired, and assistant GM Jeff Gorton took over.
Gorton's pivotal move came on June 15 when he traded goalie Andrew Raycroft to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Tuukka Rask. Raycroft had struggled in Boston, while Rask was a promising young talent. Rask spent two seasons in the AHL, honing his skills and earning a spot on the Bruins' main roster.
Although they faltered in the second round, the following year brought success as the Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 2011, with Rask eventually becoming their main goalie.
